Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 x 400g cans cannellini beans, rinsed, drained
  • 2 x 400g cans diced Italian tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 4 cloves
  • 500g bacon bones
  • 8 thin beef sausages, cooked, to serve
  • Crusty bread, to serve

Method

  • Step 1 Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook, stirring, for 3 to 4 minutes or until tender.
  • Step 2 Add beans, tomatoes, molasses, sugar, cloves and bacon bones. Stir until well combined. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer, gently stirring every 20 minutes, taking care not to break up beans, for 1 hour or until sauce is thick. Remove from heat and discard bones. Serve beans with sausages and bread.
